Nutrition

Whilst medication – be it hormones or other – plus supplements and vitamins can help support our body systems, there is no doubt that what we choose to eat and drink, and how we eat and drink, can have an impact on our overall well-being. For example, chewing food well ensures our body maximises the nutrients obtained from it, so by sitting down and focusing on the food itself and eating in a relaxed way, we help achieve this.

Stress not only affects us emotionally and physically, it also affects our relationship with food, hence it is important to reduce stress as much as possible, which includes over-thinking about our food choices. It’s about balance, because if we are not enjoying what we’re doing, it just causes more stress.

The benefits of a Mediterranean diet are widely documented however there is no single ‘Mediterranean’ diet. What it encompasses is limited processed foods and sugars but instead introducing more foods such as nuts, vegetables,  fruit, extra virgin olive oil, whole grains and limiting the amount of fish, meat and dairy products we consume.

But actually equally important to what we eat is socialising, being outdoors in daylight, adequate rest, leisure activities and exercise.
